I am dedicated to providing high-quality, personalized music instruction to students of all ages and skill levels.  I have been taking lessons from K Music Lessons for over two years, and that has been the best decision I've made as an adult. I bought 6 weeks of lessons initially, but after spending a few of them with Dr. K, I knew I wanted to continue to be her student. Her patience, understanding, humor, annd knowledge is unmatched in any other music teacher I've had. She listens to her students and adjusts her lessons accordingly. She is a fantastic teacher, and I sincerely recommend her to any string student.

Dr. K is an amazing instructor, and I have improved so greatly since I started lessons with her! I completely recommend her as an instructor if you are looking to make progress and improve your viola skills. She is patient, knowledgeable, and spectacular instructor to have! I attend ASU and wanted lessons close by. Mesa was surprisingly quick to get to, and the quality is outstanding!

As an older beginning cello player, I found the perfect instructor in Dr. K! I am coming from Wyoming to Arizona for the winter months. I always take cello lessons with Dr. K during my time in Arizona. She teaches with extreme patience and compassion. Her expertise and humor contribute to quality time of instruction in an enjoyable atmosphere. Dr. k is flexible in acommodating all of her students' schedules from making more time for them to prepare for auditions to accepting studnets into her schedule after time away. I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Dr. K and some of her culture. If you want to become a better string player or start from scratch, I highly recommend her!

Dr. K has been an amazing teacher. I started lessons with her in the fall of 2013 when turned 59 years old. I was a beginner with hearing aids. I knew when I decided to take lessons that I was no virtuoso and was somewhat uncoordinated. I started with Suzuki book 1 and had the scratchiest sounding bowing. She has taught me so many things since then. I am now Suzuki book 5, playing selections from the Henle edition of Bach's Sonatas and Partitas, and I am about to start learning the 6th position. She is even teaching me music theory. This old dog has learned many new tricks from her.

My son started playing the viola in school and took a likening to it. Orchestra class at Great Hearts in Chandler was learning how to play Star spangled Banner. Listening to him practice I felt he could be great. My son has been taking lessons with Dr. K since June 2018. She has been an awesome instuctor. I have heard lots of improvement in may of the songs he practices. He has participated on stage for the concert series with confidence. Dr. K has been very helpful at guiding and teaching my son to be his best at viola. We look forward to practice every week.

Dr. K has been an excellent instructor for my daughter. We have been taking lessons from her for several years. She is very personable and patient with my daughter, knows how to motivate her and make each lesson (and homework) fun, and continues to look for ways to help her improve. I would recommend Dr. K for anyone new to violin.

Dr. K did a wonderful job with my 11 year old daughter. She is a beginning violin student that wanted some extra help while school is out. We have signed up to take weekly lessons with her as my daughter was extremely happy with the lesson.

I started lessons with dr. K as an adult with zero expectations. After completing a year of lessons with her, what I’ve been able to accomplish has far exceeded my expectations. Dr. K is always patient, kind, and encouraging. She always helps point out when I might be developing a bad habit or my timing is slightly off. I’m now learning second position and am on Suzuki Book 3. Dr. K is a phenomenal teacher and if you apply a strong work ethic, I say anything is possible under her tutelage :)

I live in Boston and I ’ve taken three online lessons so far with dr. K, and they’ve all been excellent. She was immediately able to tell which exercises would be most helpful for my right arm technique, and I feel like I’ve made more progress in the last three weeks than I have for the last year+. I would unreservedly recommend taking lessons with her. Posted Aug 10, 2020

My daughter is going to ALA Ironwood. We are traveling all the way from Queen Creek for her violin lessons with Dr. K and I'll tell you, it's worth it! We have been taking lessons for some years now and Dr. K helped my daughter succeed with both her regionals and all state auditions. We are grateful to have found such an excellent teacher!

I live in Chandler and I used to take violin lessons at a famous store in the area. I switched to Dr. K after the first year of lessons. I learned during the first lesson with Dr. K more than I have learned in the whole year with my previous teacher! Every minute spent with Dr. K is well spent!

Should I buy or rent an instrument as a beginner student?

Deciding whether to buy or rent an instrument as a beginner student depends on your personal circumstances. Renting can be a cost-effective option, especially if you are unsure about long-term commitment, as it typically involves a lower initial investment and allows for upgrades. Buying can be advantageous if you are committed and wish to own your instrument, often providing better long-term value. Many rental programs also offer rent-to-own options, combining the benefits of both approaches. Consider your budget, plans, and rental agreements before making a decision.

What do I need to buy as a beginner student, before my first lesson?

As a beginner violin or viola student preparing for your first lesson, it is recommended to have the Essential Elements book vol. 1, a shoulder rest (Kun or Everest are the most common brands), fingering tapes and a collimator guide tool: ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08343PQ8C/?coliid=I35ROH9MQZTUC9&colid=24NSA9JLVF715&psc=1&ref_=list_c_wl_lv_ov_lig_dp_it)
As a beginner cello student, you need the Essential elements book vol. 1, fingering tapes and an adjustable cello endpin anchor.
As a piano student you need to have a keyboard or piano to practice at home and the Faber Piano Adventures Primer Level Lesson and Performance books.

If my kid is playing at the school orchestra, do we still need private lessons?

Certainly! Participation in a school orchestra can provide valuable ensemble experience for your child, such as learning to collaborate with other musicians and performing in a group setting. However, private lessons offer a personalized approach to your child's musical education, allowing them to focus on technique, interpretation, and skill development tailored to their needs. Combining both can yield substantial benefits and foster well-rounded growth in their musical journey.

I have played an instrument as a kid, but I haven't played for years. Can I still learn an instrument as an adult?

Absolutely! Many adults rediscover a passion for music later in life and successfully learn or relearn an instrument. Your past experience can provide a valuable foundation, and with consistent practice and a structured learning approach, you can make significant progress. Whether you aim to play casually or take it more seriously, there are lessons and resources available tailored to adult learners.
